The mission of Urban Ballet Theater is the creation and ongoing development of a ballet-theater dialect that reflects the current tempers of society. Catanach's work illustrates life in its truest form. Using realism as the basis of his work, Catanach creates pieces that portray life's hardships as well as joy, pain and beauty. He creates not to entertain but to present images that challenge the audience to embrace, examine and apply the images to their own life experience. Urban Ballet Theater features classically trained dancers with extraordinary theatrical and technical ranges. Each of Urban Ballet Theater's consummate classical dancers also comes to work with a abroad range of dance, tehater and film experience. Lecture demonstrations consist of a minimum of eight dancers exhibiting full works as well as excerpts from ballets which are appropriate and diverse enough for audiences of all ages. Works with titles such as "Trouble," "A Woman's Work," "Billy the Kid" and "Mambo" convey storylines and present relatable, contemporary characters created especially with inner-city audiences in mind. A host, usually Artistic Director Daniel Catanach, maintains the audience's attention by narrating the presentation, thus creating a unique 45 minute experience.
